Why Online Greeting Cards Still Matter
Long before social media feeds and group chats, people shared joy one email at a time - and the habit never really went away. According to the Greeting Card Association, Americans exchange roughly 6.5 billion greeting cards every year, because a card - paper or digital - says something a quick text never can: I stopped what I was doing and thought about you. An online greeting card adds the things paper can't do: motion, color, instant delivery, and the ability to reach a friend on the other side of the world in seconds, for free.
Greeting cards themselves have a surprisingly long history. The Smithsonian National Postal Museum traces commercial greeting cards back to the 1840s, when the first printed Christmas cards traveled by post. GreetingGrams is simply the same warm idea, delivered down a wire instead of through a mail slot.
The Most-Loved Pages on GreetingGrams
A few pages on this site have been forwarded so many times they have become little pieces of internet folklore:
- The Poopie List - our most famous page, a field guide to an unmentionable subject that has made millions of people laugh.
- Lessons for Life - 45 small pieces of wisdom that people keep printing out and pinning above their desks.
- Love Story - the wartime tale of a soldier, a borrowed book, and a single red rose.
- 50 Fun Things to Do in an Elevator - the definitive guide to confusing strangers between floors.
A Little GreetingGrams History
GreetingGrams.com first went live in the summer of 2000, in the golden age of free e-card sites. Back then most of our animated cards were built in Flash, the little browser plug-in that powered the playful early web. Flash has since retired, so the classic animated cards have been lovingly re-imagined with modern artwork and animation - same cheerful spirit, no plug-ins required.
How to Send a GreetingGram
Sending a greeting could not be simpler: browse to any card or fun page, then share its link by email, text message, or any chat app. The page itself is the greeting - when your friend opens the link, the card plays for them. Start with the birthday card if someone's big day is coming up, or dive into the jokes if their inbox needs a laugh. Happy gramming!
